There are five mandates to excel in your marriage. A mandate is a decree or instructions that produces order. The first mandate in marriage is:

FRUITFUL

This mandate is instructing the couple to be a producer. This mandate goes beyond literally producing children, but to produce life. Couples must create things in their marriage that produces fruit or life. Couples should not allow any type of death in their marriage. Also, in order to produce fruit, you must first plant a root. Releasing Unhealthy Habits

As you prepare to enter into new year, it's important to take the time to release unhealthy habits. Habits are very easy to develop whether good or bad. Habits are developed by a mindset that is manifested through your behavior. If you have a negative mindset, you will eventually create negative habits and vice versa. One of the greatest mindset that creates unhealthy habits is slowly forming a lack of respect for your spouse. When the mindset of lack of respect is set, it produces:

1. Taking each other for granted
2. Lack of sensitivity
3. Irriabitliy
4. Reacting, instead of responding
5. Ignoring
6. Being snappy with each other
7. Silent treatment
8. Negative attitude

When these root of a mindset of lack of respect, it produces the "Fruit" of:

1. Not spending time together
2. Eating in front of the TV instead of eating at the dining table
3. Staying up all night on the internet, instead of being with you spouse
4. Putting each other down through humor or meaness
5. Getting too busy involved in other activities
6. Getting lazy and not attending church service
7. Forgetting important dates (i.e. birthdays, anniversaries)
8. Arguing over petty things

Start today and inhance the level of respect for your spouse and your marriage. Understand that your spouse and your marriage is very valuable and should be treated in just manner.
